1. Plural God who is called “us”
They say that God is always described as “He” in the Bible, then how would they explain the verses below?
- Ge 1:26-27 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness . . .” . . . in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
- Ge 11:6-7 The LORD said, “. . . Come, let us go down and confuse their language . . .”
In the Bible, God clearly refers to “us,” which is plural. Denying this truth is to deny God. In verse 26, God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness . . .” If God were one, He should have said, “Let me make man in my image, in my likeness . . .” However God used the plural pronoun “us.” The reason is found in verse 27. When man was made in the image of plural God, described as “us,” male and female were created. So, in the image of God there must be God of male image and God of female image.
In other words, God photocopied the image of God. Then male and female were copied. If male and female came out as a copy, God, who is the original, must exist as God of male image and God of female image. So, we call God of male image “our Father in heaven”, and God of female?image “our Mother in heaven” .
- Mt 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
2. The reason why God is described as “He”
Do you know who first sinned by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden? It was Eve, the wife of Adam. However, the Bible says that “Adam” was the first person to sin (Ro 5:12-14). Do you know why? It is because Adam and Eve are considered to be one, and among these two, Adam is the representative. Through Adam and Eve, we can understand God Elohim because Adam and Eve were created in the image of God Elohim. The Bible says that these two people, Adam and Eve, are one body (Ge 2:24), and calls the sin of these two “a sin of one man, Adam.”
In the same way, God exists as God the Father and God the Mother. However, we can of course describe God as if they were one, and we can use the word “He,” a word to describe a man, to describe God. It is because God the Father is the representative even though they both exist. Therefore, it is a wrong insistence that God the Mother does not exist because the word “He” is used for God.
